Made in 72 Hours for the Solo Dev Jam #12

No third party or premade assets were used. Everything was made from scratch for this jam in 72 hours including the music (I apologize in advance)

3.6 Roentgen

not great, not terrible

Chain combo attacks together to build up your meter and obliterate your enemies.

You are fighting a bunch of robots in the reactor hall of Chernobyl for some reason. You are also a robot but with a sweet jumpsuit.

Instructions

WASD / Leftstick:  Walk

Left Click / Square: Punch -- Attack 3 times for a full 1-2-3 combo

Space / Cross:  Dash -- dash in the direction you're facing

Right Click / L1:  Counter -- Counter attacks instantly kill enemies. Enemies who are about to attack spawn an icon over their heads

CTRL / Circle :  SlavSquat -- If your achilles tendons are flexible enough, use this technique to slowly recover health

F / Triangle: Explosive attack --- This instantly kills all enemies. Must have fully charged meter to use.

Known Issues

  • The combat feels unresponsive sometimes.
    • This is due to a number of factors such as not being able to attack unless you're targeting an enemy, poor animation blending, and a low number of unique animations. I planned on recording mocap for this, but ran out of time (who would have guessed)
  • Enemy AI is extremely stupid
    • Like all AI, the enemies in this game are extremely unreliable, stupid and worthless. I saw the jam timer winding down and went for the quickest possible implementation.

  • One of the back walls has no collisions
    • Forgot to fix that. If you run out of bounds, you can lead the robots to their deaths like lemmings. They have gravity, you dont

  • If an enemy spawns on your head, it might get stuck in mid air

  • Gamepad doesn't work on web build. Maybe just a firefox issue

Sick robot design and graphics! My high score was 137, but that was by exploiting the buggy AI. Animations are a little jank, but they feel satisfying and responsive when doing the three hit combo. The AOE attack is cool, but would've been more useful if you could trigger it while walking (currently, you need to be standing still).

With a bit more work on the combat mechanics, I could see it being fun trying to fight your way out of the facility.

A big problem with the web build is that, since slav squat is mapped to ctrl, and you move with wasd, it's easy to accidentally trigger the "CTRL+W" shortcut, which closes the current tab on most browsers.
